Where can I get boat insurance?

Boat insurance is available through almost all of the large national insurance companies (Allstate, Geico, Progressive, State Farm, etc.) as well as through many small local and independent firms/agencies. Your local marina, lender, or boat broker should also be able to point you in the direction of some resources for finding boat insurance.

A good place to start shopping for boat insurance is through your home and/or auto insurer since many companies offer multi-policy discounts. Even if your current insurance company doesn't offer the boat coverage you need, they should be able to provide you with useful information for finding someone that does.  Also, don't forget to ask for the best deal by letting your insurance agent know that you're shopping around with several companies. Many insurers also give discounts for boater's safety course and boating-specific licenses.

Lastly, consider getting a quote from the Boat Owners Association of the United States (BoatU.S.). They've been offering boater specific insurance products and services for several decades and are an excellent resource for information about the industry.
